Abstract | [Summary]Beta 2-microglobulin (β2-MG) concentration in serum and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) under various diseases, and the concentration in serum with relation to the age of healthy children were investigated. The normal value in serum decreased with the age of children and reached the level of adults after 12 years old. Comparing with the normal level, the serum β2-MG concentration in patients with disease reflected well their clinical findings. In children bearing malignant tumor, the ratio of β2-MG concentration in CSF to that in serum showed good coincidence with the result of CSF cytodiagnosis. Therefore, the possibility for confirmation of meningo-infiltration prior to the apperanse of abnormal cells in CSF was suggested. |
