Abstract | [Summary] The bone scans of 90 cancer patients with one or more rib lesions were studied. Of these, 45 (50%) had rib metastases, 26 (29%) had no metastasis, and 19 (21%) were undetermined. Rib lesions were analyzed regarding the number, pattern of distribution, pattern of abnormal findings, location in the rib, and coexistence of other bony lesions as well as interval changes. It was concluded that scintigraphic findings in favor of metastasis were as follows, 1) multiple lesions (3 or more) (p<0.005) , 2) no alignment of neighboring rib lesions in the same location (p<0.001) , 3) linear, expansile, diffuse, or cold lesions (p<0.025) , 4) lesions in the bony rib instead of in the costchondral junction (p<0.001) , 5) coexisted scintigraphic abnormalities in other regions (p<0.001) , 6) "increased" or "unchanged" interval changes (p<0.01) . |
