Abstract | [Summary] The radionuclide 99mTc has played an important role in the rapid growth of nuclear medciine due to its combination of excellent physical characteristics and its ready availability from the 99Mo-99mTc generator, The development of compounds labeled with 99mTc having different biological distributions has greatly increased its usefulness and made it the nuclide of choice for several applications. A detailed study of the chemistry invovled in labeling human serum albumin with technetium has resulted in the development of a reproducible method for labeling with high efficiency and the production of a product of high specific activity. As a result of these studies a new compound, 99mTc-DTPA, has been prepared which may further enhance the usefulness of the nuclide in nuclear medicine. The authors are indebted to Mr. James Baranosky for technical assistance in these studies. |
